Lim Kit Siang wrote on his blog about the green tide phenomenon in GE-15.
It refers to Perikatan Nasional’s success in winning 74 parliamentary seats, 43 of which were seats won by PAS.
He said, if something is not done, Malaysia will become an Islamic country by GE-17.
He said again, “the green tide phenomenon was among others, the creation of the toxic politics of lies, fear, hate, race, and religion, and the unexpected result of the lowering of the voting age to 18, adding 1.4 million new votes to the electoral roll”.
(Translation: the green wave phenomenon is among other things a toxic political creation of lies, fear, hatred, racism, religion and the unintended result of lowering the voting age to 18, adding 1.4 million new voters to the electoral roll)
Accordingly, according to Lim Kit Siang, the rise of the green wave which refers to the sudden increase of PAS seats in Parliament must be blocked.
This article by Lim Kit Siang highlights DAP’s Islamophobic side.
DAP’s hatred of Islam is clearly displayed, even though its argument about green tide is flawed.
Why did I say miss?
Lim Kit Siang failed to see the success of Perikatan Nasional winning 74 seats including 1 in Sabah and 1 in Sarawak is a reflection of the rejection of Malays/Bumiputeras against corrupt politics and abuse of power which has already started since 1999.
Perhaps Lim Kit Siang forgot that the political landscape of Malaysia has started to change since the 1998 Reformation led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In the 1999 general election, Barisan Alternatif which consisted of KEADILAN, PAS and DAP became an early manifestation of the existence for the first time of a cross-racial opposition political bloc to fight the dominance of Barisan Nasional.
In the 1999 general election, the phenomenon of the Malay revolt broke out which saw BN lose many seats in states with a large Malay majority (the Malay heartland) such as Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
The Malays at that time were very sympathetic to the plight of Anwar Ibrahim who was dismissed from the position of Deputy Prime Minister and humiliated by accusations of moral misconduct.
They are also angry with Mahathir’s cronyism and nepotism practices as alleged by Anwar.
Then they punished UMNO and BN in the 1999 GE.
As a result, PAS achieved a very good performance.
Apart from keeping the Kelantan state, the party also took over the Trengganu state government from BN.
PAS’s strength in Parliament increased from only 7 seats in 1995 to 27 seats.
At the state level, PAS seats increased from 33 seats to 98 seats.
In fact, Lim Kit Siang lost in Tanjong and Karpal Singh lost in Jelutong.
Lim Kit Siang’s place as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament was taken by PAS President, Tuan Guru Haji Abdul Hadi Awang.
At that time Lim Kit Siang did not talk about the green tide.
The phenomenon of the Malay revolt in the 1999 GE has caused Tun Mahathir to add ethnically mixed constituencies in the re-delimitation of the elections carried out after the 1999 GE.
This is because, BN feels that it can no longer rely solely on Malay voters to win the election.
It is not an exaggeration to say that BN’s victory in the 1999 GE was due to the support of Chinese voters.
It is something that DAP did not expect.
After that, BN won big in the 2004 GE after Tun Mahathir resigned and was replaced by Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Pak Lah’s image as Mr. Clean in addition to his father who is a famous scholar attracted the support of the Malays to UMNO and BN.
However, this victory did not last long.
In the 2008 GE, BN lost its 2/3 majority in Parliament for the first time since the 1969 GE.
The main issue brought up by the opposition (at that time Pakatan Rakyat which consisted of PKR, PAS and DAP) was the increase in oil prices and the issue of (budak-budak tingkat 4) the 4th floor boys which refers to Pak Lah’s officers on the 4th Floor of the Office The Prime Minister who is said to dominate politics and business in Malaysia.
As a result, BN’s parliamentary seats were reduced by 58 seats, from 198 seats to 140 seats.
PR also increased 62 seats from 20 seats to 82 seats.
In the 2013 GE, BN’s position worsened.
Instead of losing the 2/3 majority, BN lost the popular vote with only 47.4% of the total votes.
BN parliamentary seats decreased from 140 to 133 and PR seats increased from 82 to 89 seats.
Despite getting 50.9% of the popular vote, PR failed to form a government because the number of BN seats exceeded PR seats.
Anwar held a series of large-scale Black Out gatherings across the country to protest the 2013 GE results.
This series of compilations failed to yield any results.
BN finally lost in the 2018 GE by only winning 79 parliamentary seats.
PH (composed of PKR, DAP, BERSATU and AMANAH) which contested using the PKR logo won 104 seats and another 9 seats in Sarawak which contested using the DAP logo.
PAS who contested solo only won 18 seats.
BN’s defeat in the 2018 GE is the end of BN as the dominant party in Malaysia.
As in the previous GE series, BN’s defeat was not caused by the rise of the Islamic State or the green tide, but by voters’ rejection of corruption and malpractices associated with BN.
In GE-14, the kleptocracy slogan linked to the 1MDB scandal became PH’s war-cry in overthrowing BN’s political dominance and it succeeded.
In GE 2022 (GE 15), the Parliamentary seats won by BN dropped further to only 30.
The emergence of Perikatan Nasional as a multi-racial political coalition made up of Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, SAPP and STAR (before STAR left PN) is seen by Malays as the best alternative to BN which is still plagued by the image of a kleptocrat.
PN, a new party, managed to win 74 seats, most of which were Malay majority seats.
PN’s success in winning 74 seats, especially in Malay majority seats, is a continuation of the decline in Malay voters’ support for BN since the 1999 GE, which was caused by the Malays’ rejection of BN’s kleptocratic image.
It is a manifestation of the Malays’ awareness of the political struggle based on the values of integrity and anti-corruption, not because of the rise of Islamic religious bigotry as Kit Siang and DAP are trying to promote.
Lim Kit Siang displayed extreme Islamophobia by calling the rise of the Malays as the green tide.
This is an insult to the Malays’ intelligence and dignity.
I really understand DAP’s thinking.
They want to avoid the disaster that will befall DAP when the party decides to work with BN in the coalition government formed after GE 15.
Where is DAP’s anti-kleptocracy voice?
This green tide propaganda is actually aimed at die-hard DAP supporters among Chinese voters.
Lim Kit Siang wants to create fear among Chinese voters so that they do not support PN because there is PAS in PN.
He does not care about the effect of this propaganda on the minds of Malays who may increase their support for PN.
If this happens, UMNO will be buried directly in GE 16.
Lim Kit Siang does not care if UMNO is buried.
He just wanted to tell the Chinese voters to swallow DAP’s lies wholeheartedly before GE 15 when the party’s leaders were willing to sit at the same table in the Cabinet with the group they called bandits in the famous “hoi ya hoi” song.
Lim Kit Siang lied to Chinese voters by using PAS as a scapegoat.
Those playing toxic politics of lies, hate, racism and religion are Lim Kit Siang and DAP.
